Mastitis prevention

Mastitis is the most costly disease on a dairy farm, affecting the health of the cows and resulting in decreased milk production and lower milk quality. Mastitis is a painful condition affecting dairy cows, caused by inflammation of the mammary glands. The most effective way to prevent mastitis is minimizing the introduction of bacteria via the teats, into the mammary gland.

Key components of good milking hygiene include:

1.    Proper preparation of milking equipment: Milking equipment should be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized before each use to prevent the spread of pathogens.

2. Apply Farnax^®-Prelac for Pre-milking teat disinfection: Teats should be cleaned and disinfected before milking to reduce the number of pathogens on the teat surface.

3.    Proper milking technique: Milking should be performed using gentle, consistent pressure to avoid causing injury to the teat or introducing pathogens into the mammary gland.

4.   Apply Farnax^®-CoDip for proper post-milking teat disinfection: Teats should be treated with a disinfectant after milking to kill any remaining pathogens on the teatskin, support a fast closing of the sphincter and reduce the risk of infection.

5.     Regular maintenance of milking equipment: Milking equipment should be regularly inspected and maintained to ensure that it is functioning properly and free of contaminants.

Solutions:

1) Before milking:

Farnax^®-Prelac for optimal pre-milking teat preparation has a triple action:

• Cleaning
• Conditioning
• Disinfecting

2) After milking:

Farnax^®-CoDip is a 2-compound teat dipping product that protects the teats after milking. This strong teat dip disinfectant has high covering properties and supports a faster sphincter closing. 

Farnax^®-CoDip gives an optimal protection against different types of mastitis (environmental, clinical, subclinical, …) even in the most difficult circumstances,  dirty, humid and wet-bedding conditions.

Practical set-up:

Apply Farnax^®-Prelac with a foam dip cup or by up-right sprayer. Optimal results if applied by foaming with the foaming dip cup. The advantage of the application with the foaming cup is a better coverage  and better skin conditioning. Depending on the mode of application, the product has to be diluted.

Farnax^®-CoDip: first mix Farnax-CoDip and Farnax-CoDip activator and let react for minimum 1 hour before use.  Once the product is ready, apply with a dipping cup for optimal coverage.

Farnax^®-CoDip  stays at least 30 days stable, after activation.
